BOWLING

NEWTOWN CLUB'S ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Newtown Bowling Club states that the number of members now on the books is somewhat less than that at the end of the previous financial year. There have been thirteen resignations, three -written off, two deaths, and five members have resigned from May 31 last. Thirteen new members have been elected. In consequence of tho abolition of the mid-week half-holiday, there will be more players to be provided with.a game on Saturday afternoons. As the green is usually full on that day the question of reducing the maximum membership and increasing the 1 subscription will be brought forward for discussion at the annual meeting. The financial year closed with a slightly smaller balance than was available at the beginning. This is accounted for mainly by the fact that the club is now paying off over £20 per annum of the principal of the mortgago on the club's property, thus reducing th 9 liability by an increasing PETONE CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Petone Bowling Club (Mr. A. Cowie presiding) the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. J. G. Castle; vice-president, Mr. W. P. Rennie; secretary, Mr. G. H. Cates; treasurer, Mr. J. G. Castle j management committee, Messrs. Cowie, Hay, Mcllmish, Marsden, M'Ewon, and Stephen; match committee: Messrs. Fowler, Melhuish, M'Ewen; trustee representative, Mr. A. Carter; delogates to Wellington Centre, Messrs. Coles, Palmer, and Wylie; auditors,' Messrs. Jones and Atkinson. The president presented prizes to the following:—Champion singles: Mr. W. F. Rennipi (Wilford Cup), A. Coles (2nd); champion pairs: M'Ewan and Melhnish, l.; Cates and Wearne, 2. In respect to the former, the prize money (£2 Bs.),* and in tho latter case £2 165., was handed ovor to the Carnival Fund. It was decided not to hold tho annual 6ocial this year, but to hold three progressive euchre tournaments. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the secretary, Mr. Gates, tho caretakcr, and tlm president.
