BOWLING

VICTORIA CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. The eighteenth annual meeting of the Victoria Bowling Club was held last evening, Mr. G. Snaddon, president, being in the chair. The annual report, which has already been published,, was adopted. Considerable discussion ensued over a paragraph which appeared in the anSflal report as follows:— "The directors record their regret that a meeting of the members of the club was convened by a member on ■May 26 without consulting the directors, and .contrary to the method provided in our articles of association for calling special meetings. ■Several members spoke in strong terras against tho paragraph being inserted, and the general opinion was that any member had a perfect right to call a meeting of members to discuss the welfare of the club. In reply, the chairman said'that he was not aware of any ill-feeling in the club. The convener of the meeting had probably acted with the best intention, but he had gone about it in the wrong way. The held the opinion that there was nothing in the report to which exception could be taken. .It was simply an expression of regret that tho meeting had been called to which members had not been invited. Mr. M. F. Marks subsequently moved an amendment that the paragraph be deleted from the report. This was seconded by Mr. P. Levi, and carried by 47 votes to 6. A motion by Mr. J. Besant to the effect that the supply by the club of certain refreshments be abolished was carried by 39 votes to 37. The election - of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. J. S. Keith; directors, Messrs. C. Campbell, G. Godber, W. E. Jackson, 31. Marks, R. Scott, 11. Haughton; hon. treasurer, Mr. S. 15. Hunt; hon. secretary, Mr. J. F. Evans; hon. auditor, Mr. R. Dixon.
