TIDINGS FROM GALLIPOLI THE ATTACK ON ACHI BABA(Rec. June 23, 0.40 a.m.) : 'Alexandria, June 22. A: further lot of wounded men have arrived from Cape Helles and Gabe 'l'epe. They desoribe Aehi liaba as a small Gibraltar, and if British soldiers held the position it would never be taken. The Turks, during the attack on May 18, were warned tliafc if tliey wavered or attempted to retire they would be annihilated by their own machine guns. The first line of men flung themselves on the ground a hundred yards from tho Australian and Neiv Zealand trenches, and maintained a hot riflo fire. The second line came on at the double, passed through their first line, who then rose and followed, the whole coming on in close formation with bayonets fixed. "Our guns mot them at point-blank range with terrible effect. "British reinforcements are continually arriving at Gallipoli, and important headway is now expected to be made."
