OFFICERS OF PARLIAMENT

CHANGES AND PROMOTIONS. Consequent upon the retirement of two officers of the House of Representatives a number of changes in the staffing, mostly by way of promotion, will have to be made. .The Clerk of the House (Mr. OtterBon) retired some months ago. His position will be taken by Mr. A. F. Lowe, Clerk Assistant. The other positions will bo filled by promotion or otherwise, on the recommendation of the Speaker, as soon as the Speaker is elected. Some twenty years ago there was some discussion in the House about a certain appointment made by the Minister, and it was then resolved that no officers of the House should be appointed in future unless with the consent of Mr. Speaker. Major Sheppard ; who has been unable owing to failing ,health' to discharge regularly bis duties as Sergcant-at-Arins of later years, has , resigned. Captain Home, who has leen Acting Sergeant-at-Arms during' tho last two sessions, has been appointed temporarily to, the position. .The permanent appointment,, which will probably go to Captain Home, wil be made on the recommendation; of Mr..Speaker. In his report to the Karori Bowling Club on Thursday, Mr. H. Sunley, the treasurer, stated, that the club commenced the financial year with an overdraft of £92 9s. 10d., which at the end of the year had been reduced to £36 14s. Id. During the year just closed the club's revenue amounted to £188 7s. 6d., and the expenditure to £133 lie. 9d.,* showing a surplus of £55 12s. 9d., exclusive of donations of £15 12s. Dd.
