ASSISTED IMMIGRANTS
— 1 AN INFLUX OF RELATIVES. Among tho passengers to arrive from England yesterday by the Remuera were 79 assisted immigrants and two domestic servants. It is not generally known that since the outbreak of the war no men of the military > age—between 18 and 38 years—have been permitted to take the advantages offered' by the assisted immigration system of tho Government, and the 79 passengers mentioned consist wholly of relatives of those already established in New Zealand—mostly women and children. By the Corinthic, due here about July 8, a batch of 50 domestic servants are being sent out under the auspices of the British Women's Emigration Society, in charge of two reliable matrons. ■ These girls, who are said to be of a good stamp, wfll be distributed as evenly as possible throughout the Dominion. It might be mentioned in passing that the demand for Homo girls for domestic service is still far from being satisfied. The demand in the South, particularly in Otago, is said to be as keen as ever it was. Besides these 50, there will he another 119 assisted imimjirants arriving by the Corinthic. Now is evidently the time when relatives of people at Homo are straining every nerve to get their people out to New Zealand, and if the easy terms on which this can be arranged were more widely known here, the Immigration Department's officers are. convinced that the figures would be doubled.
