NAPIER NOTES
A. notice of motion has been given which proposes, owing to financial stringency, to reduco the honorarium of tho Mayor of Hastings from £175 to £100. At to-night's Napier Borough Council meeting the opinion was expressed that contracts effected by increased prices occasioned by the war should bo adhoro dto. The Mayor, in support, said he had never'known of a'contractor who had made a Tefund when prices dropped. Up to the present'the Napier towii clcrk has received £17,919 towards various patriotic funds.
The members of the Plimmer-Hall Comedy Company are due here from the soiilh this morning. They will initiate a second tour of the North Island at Martinbor<ragh this evening playing Gantbany's preachment on selfishness, "A Message from Mars," tho spirit of which is capitally attuDed to the times wo live in.
