SOCCER CARNIVAL SPOILT
POSTPONED FOR A WEEK. After weeks of tireless energy players and supporters of the Association game in Wellington had arranged for a big 1 gala day on Saturday. During the morning the sun shone out and everything pointed to a good day for the benefit of our wouuded soldiers. When tho time was approaching for the commencement of the procession through the principal streets of the City, dark clouds came up, tho weather became colder, and then came the rain in sheets. Several consultations wero held, and after due deliberation the powers that bo decided that the whole show should be postponed. Some mqney had been taken at the Basin Reserve. After the first downpour of rain the sun shone out onco more, and it was then decided to "so on with the game" till darkness set in. The enthusiasts tackled their work wi*h a will to try to make the most of things for the 400 or 500 peonle'who were on the ground. The various "side-shows did fairly well, and the afternoon tea business was brisk while it lasted. Had the weather been more kind there is no doubt thait tho Wounded Soldiers' Fund would have benefitted considerably. The arrangements had been made as complete as possiblo, and piaiso is due to the various oommittees for the manner in which they had carried out numerous details. It wa3 intended to carry on the carnival throughout the evening, but when darkness came most of the people made for home, and it was decided to hold the real Gala next Saiturdav, provided the necessary permission can be obtained from the City Council. If the carnival is held, tickets which are out now will liold good.
A match has been arranged between To Ante (Native) College and tn« Wanganui Collegiate School for Wednesday nest, to bo played 011 the Showground, Pahnerstou North, commencing at 2 o'clock.
