AIRMAN'S SAD DEATH

LIEUT, WARNEFORD KILLED London, Juno 18. Lieut. Warneford was killed whilst flying a Fannan biplane in tho Talis Aerodrome. A civilian passenger was also killed. SOME FURTHER PARTICULARS. (Rec. June 20, 3.30 p.m.) Paris, Juno 19. Lieut. Warneford was killed while testing a machine, and was accompanied by Mr. Henry Needham, an American_ writer. 'llicy fell SOO feet. Warneford bad doseiibed several large circles and made several rapid descents, iind when at an altitude of two hundred metres lie tried a sharp turn to the right. Tho machine somersaulted and fell hoavily. The occupants, who were not strapped in, fell out. The bodies of Lieut. Warneford and Mr. Henry Neodhani were brought to tho mortuary at the British Uospital at Versailles from Buo. The coffins were covered with the Union Jack and tho Stars and Stripes respectively. Floral gifts were sent by the medical staff and British convalescent soldiers who were inmates of the hospital, and tho officers and men of the garrison sent wreaths and baskets of flowers. [Naval Fiig'lit-sub-lioiitciiaiit Warneford performed a wonderful aerial feat on June 6 and 7. He attacked a Zeppelin between Ghent and Brussels, at a height of 6000 feet, and dropped several bombs upon it. One set fire to the envelope, ttnd the gas exploded. The Zeppelin was wrecked, and fell upon a roligious house, killing several people. All the crew perished. Warneford's monoplane was turned upside down by the explosion, and he involuntarily "looped tho loop," finally descending, All the petrol had riui out of his working tank, and ho had to refill it from his reserve supply. After being on the ground in enemy territory for over half-an-hour he rose into the air said returned safely. He was awarded the V.C. and received a special message of congratulation from King Georgt,; and he vail also r.ude a member of tho Legion of Honour. Ho was a. Canadian.]
