SALVATION ARMY
ANNIVERSARY TEA. In connection with the thirty-second anniversary celobrations of the Salvation Army, an anniversary tea was held at tho Citadol, Vivian Street, last night. About 300 people sat down to ,lhe tea, which'-was presided over by llis Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke). Lieutenant-Colonel Powley, chief secretary for New Zealand, and Brigadier Gist, Principal of the Training Cbllege, were also present-. After the tea a special anniversary programme was presented. The hall was crowded, and among tlioso present was Envoy Col ley, the first commanding officer of the Wellington Corps. The chairman, Lieutenant-Colonel Powley, opened the proceeding:! with' a short address. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) and leading local officors of tho army also spoke. The hand was present, and rendered several selections. The corps' songster brigade was heard in the selections "Singing Merrily" and "The Army of Salvation. 1 ' The girls' choir also sang. Other items on the programme were: Rccitation by Captain Watson, and solo, "The Array Veteran," Bandsman Judd. The singing of the "Doxolcgy" concluded tho celebrations. During tho evening the Chief Secretary road the annual report, which stated that there had been a' total collective increase in the attendance, at Sunday meetings of 9442, and in the week meetings of 4822. Meetings to the number of 912 had been held during the year, while 31 new soldiers had joined the Army. Extensive additions and alterations had been carried out at the Citadol, which had greatly improved things. To-day, in accordance with the order of the Goneral, intercessory prayers for pence will, he offered up by Salvationists all over tho world.
