PETONE MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at tlie monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court yesterday. .John Jf'Donald was fined 55., with costs 7s. t for driving a vehicle without lights. W. Gledhill waa fined 10s., and 7s. costs, for driving a vehicle over a railway crossing when a train was appioachiiig within half-a-mile. Ellen Dalton was charged with tho theft of a pair of boots, valued at Bs. lid., the property of R. Hannah. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeaml for accused, who pleaded not guilty. After part of the evidence had bcr>n heard, Mr. Jackson withdrew the plea., as thore was no doubt in his mind that, the thoft had, been committed. A fine of 205., with' IBs. costs, was inflicted, default being fixed at three days' imprisonment. Sergeant Foster stated that thero had recently been a great deal of shop-lift-ing going on in Petone, and the case had hoen brought as a. warning to others. F. I)e Lissa, who was charged with disobeving a maintenance order, was ordfired to pay 2e. 6d. per weok until the arrears (amounting to 205.) were paid off. Mr. H. F. Von Haast appeared for the complainant.
