TIIE ITALIAN ADVANCE HEAVY ARTILLERY ATTACK ON A FORTRESS Rome, June 14. A communique states: Attempts to arrest our offensive between Tonale Pass and the Carnic Alpsf were repulswl. i'ruitlass attempts against the Preikofel Pass were particularly desperate. Our offensive in the Carnic region continued rapidly and brilliantly. Besides tho Voliar Pass, we 'occupied the Valentina Pass. The operation was difficult, as wo were obliged to dislodge the enemy from every trench, and fellow from rock to rock, but the action of the Alpini was decisive. Our heavy artillery opened fire asuinst the fortress at Malborghetto (six miles west of Tarvis). Tho high, part of the fortress was set on lire, causing an explosion in the ammunition stores. (Rec. "On Friday the Italians succeeded in interrupting railway communication between Gorizia and Moiifalconn." ITALIAN INVESTMENT OF GORIZIA. Paris, Juno 14. The "Echo.de Paris" states that with the capture of Plava the investment of Gorizia is almost complete. AUSTRIAN AIRSHIP WRECKED IN THE MOUNTAINS. Geneva, June 14. An Austrian airship returning to Trent after reconnoitring on the frontier was caught in a storm, and dashed on to mountain crags and wrecked. THE CONFISCATION OF THE STEAMER BAYERN UNAVAILING PROTEST BY GERMANY. Rome, June 14. Germany has protested to Italy against the confiscation of tho steamer Bayern (interned since the beginning of the war and recently discovered to have on board a secret cargo of war material and aeroplanes), on the ground that Germany has not declared war. Baron Sonnino (Minister for Foreign Affairs) maintains the right to confiscate the vessel, promising a refund of the value of the cargo if Germany does not declare war.
