MAGISTRATE'S COURT
"A DISGRACE TO THE CITY." Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., prosided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. Thomas Blue, who. was characterised by Inspector Hentlrey as being "0110 of the idle and useless types that aro a disgrace to the city," was sent to gaol for a month on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person. Blue had endeavoured to beg tho necessary twopence to buy two pints for himself and a friend. George Gardener, who stole an overcoat belonging, to John Johnston, from a motor side-car and was later arrested by Detective Andrews, was sent to gao l for a month.. For indecency AVilliam Connelly was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. tFor drunkenness George Miller was fined 20s. or three days' in gaol, and John O'Neil and Charles Covle were each fined 10s. or 48 hours' imprisonment. Six first offenders were dealt with,- one who was found unconscious and drunk on the footpath was ordered to pay £1 Is. medical expenses in default three days' imprisonment. A CIVIL CASE. ' Legal argument was heard by Mr. AV. G. Riddell, S.M., on Saturday in respect to tho civil dispute concerning , the vesting of The Tiffin Tea Rooms in Manners Street. George Winder, importer, claimed from Jesse Taylor, far- . mer. of Johhsonville. £127 3s. 2d., rent in this respect. His Worship intimated _ that he would reserve his decision. Mr. Jackson appeared for plaintiff and Mr. A. Dtnm for defendant.
