BRILLIANT SUCCESS OF THE FRENCH
4 FURTHER ADVANCE MADE ALLIES' OFFENSIVE IN GALLIPOLI THREE MILES OF FRONT GAINED ITALIANS CARRY IMPORTANT FORTRESS UNITED STATES CABINET CRISIS RESIGNATION OF MR. BRYAN The war news to-day discloses increasing activity on the Western front, where the French are pressing the enemy with splendid dash and solid success. On the British front in Flanders, the situation is fairly quiet, but a report from Amsterdam indicates that another tremendous assaidt on the Yser front is not unlikely,. if tho enormous transport of German troops means anything. Tho Italians are getting into the serious part of their invasion of Austria, and -by clever tactics and a dashing attack have captured an important fortress, with valuable guns. In tho Dardanelles the Allies' general offensive on Gallipoli has developed with great rapidity and success, an advance of miles being registered. The Australians and New Zealanders, fighting magnificently, have achieved important results. A Cabinet crisis has been precipitated in the United States by the inability of Mr. W. J. Bryan (Secretary of State) to align himself with the President's views on the nation's European war policy. Mr. Bryan has resigned, and, his resignation has been accepted, which has been taken as an indication that a firmer stand will be taken by the President, now that his peace-at-any-price Secretary has departed. There has been a lively ali-round debate in the British House of Commons on various matters appertaining to tho war.
