MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. There wero present: Councillors \V. J. Howell (chairman), M. W. Welch, "NY. Galloway, J. W'akeham, J. W. Cudby) m his monthly re- II port. The extension of the Matai Road ~ was progressing satisfactorily, and the formation of 44 chains was complete and S. ready for metalling. The Akatarawa O' Road deviation fencing contract had been completed, while the l'linimerton- C; Pukerua Road was reported complete m and ready for final inspection. Particular reference was mado to the fji cost of necessary repairs and mainten- so ance of the Rifle Range Road at Tren- J 1 tham. The maintenance of this road was going to be a very costly item to tho cl Mungaroa- Riding. In this connection a ' the inspector suggested that a deputa- " tion wait on the Minister immediately : with a view to the road being taken I* over as a military road until the war was over, or failing this that a request g be made for substantial assistance to- Ci wards repairs and maintenance of the ® road, the probable cost for such being i a £600. m Tho report was adopted, and on the motion of tho chairman it was decided f.] that Councillor Whiteman and himself B confer with tho Defence authorities regirding the upkeep of the Rifle Range S Road.
