o PATRIOTIC FUND MONEYS. A conference between the executive of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Patriotic Society and the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) wa6 held .yesterday morning, the matter requiring adjustment beiug the destiny of certain " moneys forwarded to 1-lis Worship, ' which the Patriotic Society claim as haying been so sent ss the result of their Carnival effort in aid of the Fund for ' Wounded Soldiers and Sailors. The • executive asked that all such moneys 1 should be paid over to the society's 2 treasurer (Mr. J. M'lntosh) in order •" that they would be able to keep their r accounts square. Hie Mayor stated in > reply that he was hardly prepared to • do that, as there might be cases where " moneys might be paid over to him for " which he might have to account later 1 on ; and were handed over to him as • being the Chief Magistrate of the City. " What the Mayor proposed was that all " money handed or forwarded to him, • and earmarked for any'"Queon" candi--2 date, would bo retained by him, but a " certificate setting out tho amount don--8 ated and tho candidate in whose in- • torest it was to bo credited would be i. at once, sent to tho Treasurer of the 3 Patriotic Society. The Mayor then retired for a few 3- minutes to allow the executive to con- " sider the proposition, which was eveni tually accepted as satisfactory.
