FOUR-BALL MATCH AT MERAMAB. The four-ball match on Saturday afternoon, Mr. A. Duncan and J. Watt against E. S. Douglas and J. M'Cormick, was followed by about three hundred enthusiasts, and it is safe to say tliat a more interesting match, or a finer exhibition of the game, has. seldom (Teen seen in Wellington. Douglas was seen in his best form, and his score for the round was 71. Mr. Duncan was also playing excellently, but unfortunately missed two or three short putts, otherwise the match would undoubtedly have Ueen decided on the 18th green! The actual result was a win for Douglas and M'Cormick by ,3 up and 1 to play. Douglas throughout the match was playing right up to "championship" form, his score for the first half being 35, and the second half 36, but Mr. Duncan was responsible for 6orae or!Tliant play, which roused the spectators to enthusiasm. At the 7th, for instance (376yd5.), his tee shot being slightly "pulled," he had, to play his second over the long ridge, and playing a perfect iron-shot he put his ball about 3ft. from the flag. Again, at the 10th (210 yds) his drive finished a few yards past the 'pin, whilst at the 13th (400 yds) he played two perfect shots, which put him within easy putting distance, and at the nest hole llis tee shot/found the green.' The whole of the proceeds from sales of tickets will go to the Fund for our Abounded Soldiers, and it is expected that when' the returns are made up, within the next few days, the amount will be found to be over £40. ihis week's competitions for the club's "Belgians' Fund" was won by, A.
