OLD SETTLER KILLED. (By Teleemnh.—Presß Association.) « *, , , 'nveroargill, June 4. Mr. Malcolm M'Callum, an old eottier, was killed on the Bluff railway last night. He was apparently walking oil tho lino when he was overtaken. His body was severely mutilated by the cow-catcher, and death was instantaneous. TWO INQUESTS. The first inquiry concerned the death of Ralph. The evidence showed that previous to tho finding of deceased's body he had been seen walking in a curious manner to tho Run Round. He was later found drowned on the beach there. The evidence further showed that the Run Round was rather a dangerous corner at the bay, and that s&veral narrowly averted drowning accidents had tason place there. A verdiot of "found drowned" was returned by the Coroner. Tho evidence in tho case of Tolhurst showed that lie had last been seen alive on February 9, when he appeared to be very upset. The hody had been discovered on Monday last by a 60I100Iboy. Constable M'Andrew, who removed deceased's body to a hut at the cemetery, stated that in the vicinity of where ho found it were an empty beer bottle and a glass. The. Coroner returned a verdict that deceased had been found dead, but that there was no evidence t<« show how ho oamo by his death. A SUDDEN DEATH. An inquest is to be held at Lower Hutt into the death of William Masterson, aged 45, who died suddenly at his residence, Montague Street, Lower Hutt, early yesterday morning. FOUND DEAD IN BE®. A married woman named Mary Ann. Nilsen, aged 48 j'ears, was found dead in bed at her residence, 30 Broadway Terrace, early yesterday morning.' The cause of death is believed to be asthma and bronchitis, for which deceased had received medical attention in tho past. An inquest will probably be held.
