A few Eales ar© beinjr made by merchants to fill requirements m other parts of the Dominion, but thore Is 1 practically no wheat offering by growers. Those who have not disposed of their ■ wheat axe firm holders, and are generally asking 7s. at country stations. No oats are forthcoming from growers, and the market keeps very firm. Owing to the scarcity of supplies, oatshcaf chaff is in good demand from the North Island. The potato market has advanced as the J offerings are now limited, the ruling prices boihg £4 ss. to £4 7s. 6d, at country < stations, according to distance. Cowgrass seed is now offering more freely, J and although the crop is a short one, prices are low in consequence of heavy importations. The following are the latest quotations for Colonial Government securities in comparison with those ruling-last week:—
MONET MARKET. The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4} pei; cent., on January 22, it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., at which rate it now stands. The Bank of. Prance ra.te ii 6 per cent., as against 4 par cent, last year. OPEN MARKET RATES! Tho open market discount rale for three months' bills Is 2J per cent., as compared with 2 13-16 per cent, last week, and 23 per cent, last yeai-. Short loans are quoted at 2 per cent., o6 against 12 por cent, last week, and 23 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND' OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat.—The market is weak, and sellers are offering to accept 6d. per quarter less; Walla Walla, afloat, is quoted at 655. Flour is neglected. Oate are dull.
