NEW YORK TO WELLINGTON. It is announced that the 0. and D. liner Whakarua which has been on the loading berth at New York for Auckland, Wellington. and Sydney, will be dispatched this week, via. Panama Canal.

The same company has chartered a captured German steamer named 0.8. to load at New York for New Zealand polls.

Line the steamer Westmeath, which cleared Wellington on April 2, and which was reported to have been on fire at St. Yincent, has arrived safely at a Ilome port. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. T. Cairns has rejoined the Blenheim (is engineer for a trip or two. Mi'. W J. Galloway, sccond engineer of the Himitangi, lias left that vessel at Wellington. Captain 0. Forder, formerly of the Fed-eral-Shiro steamer Nairnshire, arrived at Adelaide some days ago in, command of the ex-German-Australian liner Hamm. Mi*. Cameron, chief officer of the Kini, lias left that vessel at Lyttelton to join the Reinforcements. He has been succeeded by Mr. Stewart.

Captain P. Dickson, for many years one of the leading pilots at Port Adel.vde, died at the Semaphore on May 1, in his 72nd year.

Wet weather has delayed the Shaw-Savill liner Mamari down south. Consequently the vessel will arrivo at Wellington before Saturday next. She will be dispatched for London on June 10.

A shipment consisting of 4000 capes of apples for transhipment to the Mamari for South American ports, will be brought to Wellington from Motuelia. by the Waverley on Saturday.

Messrs. Bannatyne and Co., local agents for the constat steamer Defenccd, advise that she will not arrive at Wellington before June 10. Tho Defender will take a load of timber from Hokitika ts Lyttelton, and on the way back to tho West Coaet port will niako a call at Wellington.

The Kaitoa, which will arrive at Wellington from Motucka and Nelson to-day, will undergo overhaul and survey here, and will not sail for Nelson till Monday afternoon ucxt.

A quantity of dairy produce will be brought to Wellington from New Plymouth by the Corinna to-day for transhipment to the Mamari for London. Tho Corinna will be dispatched, for Dunediu, Timaru, and Onmaru at 3 p.m. to-morrow'. As tho Union Company's Maitai did not clear San Francisco for Wellington till May 27—0n0 day late—she is not expected here till June 18 at carlie6t.

The Koromiko, which arrived at' Newcastle late on Sunday night- from Wellington, has been scheduled to sail from the coal port for Lyttelton to-day. The 6teamer Melbourne is duo at Kaipara this morning from Greymouth to load timber for Melbourne.

The Atua, which is now en route from Auckland to Island ports, is due back at the northern port from Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa on June 21.

She will land 850 tons of cargo here, and after taking in a certain quantity of freight, will proceed on to Melbourne. Timber will be brought from Terakohe and Manrarakau to Wellington by tho Waverley next week. Tho Union steamer Kaituna, which is nt present discharging Newcastle coal at Wellington, will be dispatched from hero for Greymouth to-morrow. At the latter port she will lift timber for Sydney and Melbourne, proceeding to Edithlmvg to loiul salt and gypsum for Blulf, Oamnru, nnd Timaru.
