At a meeting of the executive of the Auckland branch of the Moderate League, the secretary, Mr. Armstrong, reported progress from the central executive, Wellington. The league, he stated, intended to ask that regulations should be made restricting the sale of liquor for consumption off the premises to special bottle departments of each hotel, such departments to close earlier than the bars. The league's procramme included the establishment of a special Government department to su-, pervise the whole trade and reconstitution of local licensing authorities, with fuller powers of investigation.
