The German line has weakened, giving ground north-eastward of Ypres, before vigorous attacks, which were preceded by an effective bombardment of the trenches. The enemy, despite orders to hold at all costs, is gradually losing tho § round they won there a month ago. Their line is pierced at several points, ut they continuo courageously to defend every cottage, clump of trees, or stone-wall. Their defensive line, instead of being a series of unbroken trenches, is now an irregular line, consisting of a hastily-improvised medley of small forts.

On the whole of the way between Ypres and Dixmude the Allied airmen were very active, bombing magazines, stores, and reserve troops. They raided Zeebrugge on Sunday.
