TEE LEAGUE GAME

ATHLETICS NARROW WIN. Athletio had the hardest game of the season on Saturday, and just managed to secure victory over Suburbs, bo they remain unbeaten to date this season. In the opening match Athletic met Suburbs, and the latter team put up a big score in the first spell, to the nil of Athletic, and it looked as if they had an easy win ahead, but Athletio cam© with a run at the finish, and secured the game by a narrow margin. Saturday's game was very different, for both sides were even throughout, and the final scores were only 9 to 7 in Athletic's favour. Athletic took up the attack at the beginning, and shortly after play opened Bradley drop-kicked a lovely goal for the side. The score was equalled some minutes later by Marshall kicking a penalty goal for Suburbs. The play developed along Suburbs' lino, and the team were compelled to force, Athletio, however, were soon back at the attack, and from a mark almost at half-way Bradley kicked a beautiful goal. Suburbs retaliated with some fine combined play, and the full-baok, Warring, scored the first try of the game. Campbell failed with the kick. This gave Suburbs the advantage—s to 4 —but a run by Strickland and Bramley saw the latter score for Athletic. Bradley failed with tho kick, but just on half-time, from a mark by TJtiku, he drop-kicked a goal, and the spell ended: Athletic, 9; Suburbs, 5. In tie second spell play was very even, and when George kicked a goal for Suburbs the side made a vigorous attempt to get ahead. It took Athletic all their time to hold the advantage till the whistle went, with the score: Athletic, 9; Suburbs, 7. Mr. S. Bruce was referee. PETONE V. HUTT. The game between Hutt and Petone only lasted one spell, during whioh Howland scored an unconverted try for Hutt. During the spell there was some rough play, and one player was warned. He argued with the referee, and when told he had better leave the field did so. Three other Petone players accompanied him. The nine remaining men continued till half-time, when it was decided not to go on. Hutt secured the win by 3 points. Junior Games. Suburbs beat Hutt by 10 points to 2; Central beat Petone A by 14 points to 3. IN OTHER CENTRES. (By Teleerapli.—Pre?? Association.) Auckland, May 30.
