SOME INTERESTING GAMES United 1 Wellington 1 Karori 9 Insurance 1 University 3 St. Augustine's 2 The most interesting hockey game of the senior championship at Karori Park on Saturday was that betweon University and St. Augustine's. The Petone team played a greatly improved game, and ran their opponents very close for victory. Wellington surprised United by drawing with them, while Karori had an easy victory over Insurance. Details of the various games are as follow :— UNITED—WELLINCTON. _ The meeting between United and Wellington produced a very even oontest. United led off well, but were rather surprised to find their opponents successful emulating their efforts. The battle waved fast and interesting as tho first spell advanced, and then Andrews scored for United. Not a whit put, out, Wellington attacked fiercely, and Sheeran, who never misses an opportunity to score, succeeded in evening matters. The second half of the game was even more interesting, both teams making determined but unsuccessful at-temot-s to score. Mr. J. C. Cusack was the referee. UNIVERSITY—6T. AUGUSTINE'S. Greatly improved form was shown by Augustine's in their match with University. "So well did they play that 'Varsity had to work their hardest to avert defeat. The first spell was in St. Augustine's favour, though the scores were even. In the second half, 'Varsity rallied, and Haßtick was successful in netting a brace of points for them. St. Augustine's made a bold, but unsuccessful bid for victory, and the game finished: University, 3; St. Austine's, 2. Con Strack scored in the first spell for the winners, and L. Web; ley and Taplin were responsible for the Petone team's score. Mr. A. W. Manning was the referee. KARORI—INSURANCE. Karori found no difficulty in defeating Insurance. They gave their opponents a lesson in field tactics, and altogether played a superior game to their opponents. Apart from their exhibition, the game was uninteresting, and Karori eventually won by 9 points th 1. Heaphy (4), Whittaker (2), Pell (2), and Stratton scored for ICaIrori, and James for Insurance. Mr. G. Keall was referee. Junior. United B, playing six men, were easily defeated by Karori A by 12 to 0. College A (5) beat College B (0). Salek (2), Cleghorn (2), and Ewart scored. Karori B (with a team including five schoolboys) drew with Wellington B, the scores being 5 all. Hutt Valley (4) defeated Insurance (0). F. Lusty (3) and G. Lusty scored for Hutt. Boys' Matches. Karori (12) beat Mount Cook B (0). The scorers were: R. Smith (9), Hoskins. Watchman, Raine. Technical College (2) beat Mount Cook (1). Adams and Burt scored for College, and Cross for Mount Cook. AUCKLAND CONTESTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, May 30. Auokland beat Mount Eden, 3 to 2; University beat Areba, 2 to 1.
