FIGHTING IN THE BALTIC
PROVINCES (Reo. May 31, 0.20 a.m.) Potrograd, May 29. The military authorities are attaching greater importance to the invasion oi the Baltic Provinces, where the Germans are steadily reinforcing. Tho invading troops are grouped in three bodies, at Libau (on the west), at Rosriony, and east of Shavli. It is stated that General von Fall;enhayen, who commands, brought tho troops from France. The Germans have lost ground considerably during the past fortnight. Their original idea was to tight on a short front and drive a'wedgo with massed forces. Tho Russian strategy compelled them to extend and they thus lost their initial advantage. LATEST RKPORTS. (Rec. May 31, 0.-10 a.m.) Petrograri, May 30. "Numerous prisoners from General yon Mackensen's army are unanimous in stating that the enemy's losses in tlie recent fighting were enormous. "We repulsed three enemy attacks eastward of Husakow. The enemy fell back to his first positions after suffering 'heavy losses.
"The battle between the Dniester marshes an.4 Dolina was characterised by great violence. Large enemy forces, regardless of losses, marched obstinately to the assault of the Russian positions. These attacks were repulsed. "We have seized the offensive on the left bank of the Svitza and on the whole front to the River Lomnitza.
"Our offensive near Perekhinskv is successfully developing. We here took 3200 prisoners."
