MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THREATENING BEHAVIOUR. At tho Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning, before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., Thomas Campbell, charged with having used threatening behaviour in Tui Street, was fined 205., in default tbre» days' imprisonment. Thomas Albert Rafter, charged with indecency, was remanded for a week, on a bail of £50. Edward Reid, for the theft of ajug valued at JO2 55., was convicted sentenced to imprisonment for seven days. John Pryse was fined 405., or seven days' imprisonment, for drunkenness, and 205., or three days' imprisonment for breach of his prohibition order. Four first offenders for , drunkenness were dealt with. Medical evidence was taken in the adjourned which John Anderson was charged with having assaulted Cecil Robert Payne so as to cause him actual bodily harm, Three stitches were put in a wound over the complainant's eye, and the doctor believed the wound could have been caused by a blow from a broken bottle. At this stage the charge was reduced to one of common assault, and the case was dealt with summarily. Mr. O'Leary, for the defence, contended it was just complainant's statement apninst accused's. Defendant was convicted and fined £4, tho doctor's fee for attending complainant to be paid out of the fine. Costs in the case amounted to £2 7s. 6d. An alternative of one month was fixed.
