NEW COUNCIL MEETS. 1 I 1 q The i first ordinary meeting of tie t newly-elected City Council was "held last niglit. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) \ presided, and there were also present t Councillors W. T. Hildreth, G. Frost, y J. Hutcheson, A. Veitch, W. J. Thomp- f son, M. F. Luckie, R. A. Wright, W. v H. Bennett, T. Bush, J. Godber, L. M'Kenzie, W. H. P. Barber, J. Puller, e J. E. Fitzgerald, and A. E. Atkinson. I It was decided that the general rates t due on the property of the Kelbum a Tennis Glub in respect of the year 1915-16 should be remitted, subject to the conditions previously stipulated. In regard to the application of the Eastbourne Borough Council, it was de.ded they should be informed that it was regretted that no reduction could be made in the charge already fixed for water supply _to the ferry boats at n Day's Bay, viz., os. per thousand gallons. Accounts amounting to £4305 were passed for payment, on the recommen- j dation of tho Finance Comittee, and £20,561 on account of the tramway and electric lightin" department. ' t . The Finance Committee reported that t they had been advised by the City En- u gineer in connection with the. bricklayers' dispute as follows:—"Tho matter of wages should be left to the Arbitra- j., tion Court to determine. Matters par- j. ticularly affecting the Corporation such j, as suburban work and provision of commencing have been settled between the union and the City Engineer, and application has been made to the Court for special provision to settle tho requirements of the Corporation in this matter." The tender of tho Feilding Sash and f Door Factory Co. for the supply of s cross arms, and tho tender of the Ex- 11 ccflsior Clothing Company, for tlio sup- v pl.v ol tramway uniforms, such tenders being tho lowest received, were accent- t: eel.
