ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS SOCIETY
The Wellington Accountant Students' Society_ held a successful meeting last night in tlfe Accountants' Chambers, when Mr. Ernest W. Hunt, F.1.A.8., presided over a good attendance of members. The secretary announced that the joint dobate with the Christchtirch Society would be held in Wellington on August 28, when it was liopecl that members of the council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants would bo in attendance. The subject of tlie debate would deal with the economic aspect of. the present war. The business of the evening was a. lecture delivered by Mr. H. von Haast on "The Law liclatiaig to Voluntary Liquidations." He outlined the procedure of the liquidation from tlie date tlie first meeting was called, and dealt exhaustively with the various points tliat camo up for consideration in the course of tlie liquidation. He cited tho leading cases both in England and New Zealand to substantiate the principles ho enunciated, and was successful in making what appeared a dry subject hotli attractive and interesting. In the course of liis lecture Mr. von Haast condemned the legislation for the winding up by the Official Assignee ns obsolete and rusty, and emphasised the great need for the legislation to be recast, and put on a workablo basis. The lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
