A Jargo amount of new machinery is being imported to further extend operation®, rendered necessary by the inrush of work, and the public must bo prepared for fresh "calls." fn tho meantime work is proceeding apace, and the high average of returns is being surprisingly well sustained. A scono from' -the

operations in full swing, should prove er immense interest, and the management announce that they ha.ve completed arraugeents for the production of sanie at several local picture theatres. The completion of the "Palais do Allias" is being eagerly looked forward to, antl the bill of faro, which includes a. display by "West Coast pioneers, should satisy even the most fastidious. THE WEST COASTERS' "QUEEN." ■ The West Coasters are working vigorously to secure the success of their candidate for the Queen Carnival. Their latest idea is to set up a tent 'n which afternoon tea will be dispensed and music provided. It will be placed in Featherston ■ Streeti near tho Union Bank, and will be opened at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The friends of the candidate intend, to provido an ample supply of home-made cakes, and are expecting to raise a good sum in tliis way. A FETE CAR. The tramways men are leaving no stone unturned to-raise money for tho support of, their'.'candidate in the Queen Carnival competition. Last evening the streets of the city were traversed by a brilliantly illuminated and decorated tram-carv'containing the Tramways Band, which played a succession of lively airs as the fete car moved slowly along the track. The car was illuminated with coloured electric lights of patriotic tints, from the truck to the tip of the trolly pole, whilst a cluster of lights shed a glow upon a picture of a valiant soldior in khaki with a very fierce expression. The car was accompanied by a psuedo wounded soldier (who was very active in his pursuit of the nimble sixpence), and a number of others in weird fancy costume. each armed with a collecting box. The object for which the display was being made was never in doubt owing to the presence of posters on the car announcing that all money received was for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
