SHORTAGE OF OATS
$ XO COMPLAINTS HEARD NOW. "Complaints have ceased altogether about the notion of tlio Government in prohibiting tho export of oats from tlio Dominion," said the Prime Minister yesterday. Very large quantities are required for defence purposes, in addition to the normal demand for ordinary consumption. Unless, the higher prices liare the effect of lessening consumption verv materially, oats will bo scarce and very dear before next autumn. An exception to the prohibition of export was made in respect of oats required by the Commonwealth Defence authorities, and they have still to get a very lar ir e quantity of oats and oaten chaff from New Zealand.
