Gilbert Anderson and Co (Messrs. Mellsop, Eiiott and Co., local agents) report as follows on the frozen meat market under dxite London, April 13: — The East-or demand was good, and prices reached extreme limits. Home-grown lambs of beat quality were sold at le. 2d. f and Scotch 6ncep lOd. per lb. These prices, however, were not maintained, and there is now a, weaker tone prevailing. The Department of Agriculture, Industrios, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, Hay 22. (Note: Quotations, nnles6 otherwise specified, are average nmrltet prices on spot) Meat.—The market is firm owing to reduced supplies, together with a- very largo demand for .tho Government. During this week .higher prices have been agreed to after a consultation between the Board of Trade and Meat Traders; especially in the aiec of home-grown aDd chilled beef. Mutton: Canterbury, 63d. per lb. for best quality light-weight; medium-weights, 6Jd.; North Island, 6 3-Bd. per lb. for best quality; ordinary quality, 6Jd.; ewes, 5 13-16(1. Lamb: Canterbury, M. per lb. for ail weights; other than Canterbury, 7Jd.; second grade, 7id. Beef.—New Zealand beef is not quoted officially for reasons already given (May 15). There is only a small quantity selling at hinds 7id. per lb., fores 6id.; chilled hinds, 9id. per ib.; fores, 7Sd. Butter.—The market is firm owing to reduced supplies. Danish, quiet, 1545. to 1565. per cwt.; New Zealand, demand for spot is good-at higher prices, 1445, to 1465.; Australian, 138s. to 1405.; Irish creamery, supplies are increasing, -in fair demand, 140s. to 1445.; Siberian, none olTerinc:; Argentine, in good demand, 138s. to 140s. Cheeee.—The market is very firm, and tho supply falls short of tho demand. Canadian supplies are nearly exhausted, and prices arc nominal. Last season's make, white, 98s. per cwt.; coloured, 965. New Zealand: The market has advanced during this week, and closes firm at higher prices with a brisk demand. White and coloured, 88s. to 945., according: to quality and size. Hemp: The market is steadier and prices are firmer. New Zealand, good fail'grade, per ton, £33; fair. £31; fair current Manila, £39 10s.; May to July shipment, New Zealand, good fair, £32 10s.; fair, £30 10s.; Manila, £39. The output from Manila, for the week was 18,000 bales. Hops.—There has been no material change in the market. English, HCs. to 755.; Callfornian, 955. to 655. I Wheat.—The market, is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian, on passage, 675. per quarter; May to July shipment, 645. 3d.; American, July to August shipment, 545.; Argentine, ori passage, 635. Oats.—Tho market- is very dull.
