ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

SUDDEN DEATH. The death occurred suddenly at Sea- i toun yesterday of Mr. Rowland Digby, a retired cabinet-maker. Mr. ;Digby, shortly before noon, was working in a neighbour's garden when he suddenly expired, heart trouble being the cause | of death. Deceased was about 59 years of age, and ho had suffered for some time from heart complaint. Ho leaves a widow and a son and daughter. Mrs. Digby resides at Muiiro Street, Seatoun, and tho son, Mr. Rowland Digby, is at present in Sydney. As a medical certificate as to the cause of death is forthcoming, no inquest will be necessary. A FATAL FALL. Alt inquest was held before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., yesterday afternoon into the death of Daniel Murphy, who was admitted to tho Hospital on May 20, and died the same evening from a fractured skull. Evidence was given that deceased was about 40 years of age, and his parents lived at Stafford, on tho West Coast. Tho medical evidence was that death was duo to a fracture of the skull, and meningeal hemorrhage, likely to have been caused by a fall on .he pavenent. Other ovidenco was given that deceased was seen to fall in Lamhton Quay. The verdict was in accordance with the medical evidence. KOTELKEEPER'S SON DROWNED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dargaville, May 24. Hugliie Hodges, son of a prominent hotelkeepcr, has been missing since Saturday, and at mid-day to-day bis body was found in the river. It. is supposed ho fell oft the wharf when tying up a launch. FOUND DEAD IN BED. New Plymouth, May 24. David Small, who arrived at New Plymouth in 1841 and assisted in surveying tho town, was found dead in bed this morning. 110 was 92 years of age, but was quite active to the last. SUICIDE BY HANGING. Cliristohurch, May 24. Robert John Kean, aged forty-four, a married man, committed Sliicido by hanging this morning. Up till a month ago he was an auctioneer in tho firm oif P. S. Nicholls and Co. He suffered from mental depression dno to financial difficulties. He was previously in business in Irivercargill.
