HARRIERS
The Scottish Harriers held their three miles Novice Race from the Miramar tram terminus on Saturday. A field of 6ix participated, being dispatched on their journey by Miss L. Welch, captain of the lady Ramblers. A space of lmin. 35seo. separated the scratch aiid limit men, the latter making the most of their start. Early ill the race the lead was taken by E. Phillips, who maintained it as far a 6 the gasworks, setting a stiff pace. He was displaced by S. Waters, with G. Hutchison and the scratch men lying handy. Entering the straight E. Welch took the load, and was never headed, finishing strongly a winner by about 90yds. A distance of 30yds. separated second and third. The handicaps and finishing times i of the placed men were as follow:—E. Welch, sor., time 17min. 59sec., 1; S. Waters, 95sec., 20min. 4sec., 2; J. Hutchison, 85sec., 20min. 9sec., 3. The lady club members have formed a Rambling Club, captained by Miss L. Welch. They held their initial outing on Saturday, but owing to their desire to see the Novice Race they did not go far afield. After the run a party of about twentyfivo partook of afternoon tea. WELLINGTON. The Wellington Club held its run. from Miramar terminus. ' After seeing the start of the Scottish Club's novice race,_ fifteen members, under Captain T. Farrington, made off towards the southern end of Miramar. After reaching the sand dunes a turn was made around the golf links, and the ran home was made via the playing grounds. The usual run-in was held over a quarter of a mile. T. Farrington made the running to a hundred yards from home, and then L. Culvenvell and M. Carmody made a big bid, Carmody winning a nicely-judged finish by a few yards. Next Saturday a combined run with the other clubs will be held at Lyall Bay. OLYMPIC. The Olympic Club held its usual weekly run from Thorndon Baths on Saturday afternoon. The trail led up through Goldie's Brae to Wadestown, thence to Wilton's Bush. From there a courso was taken across the hills to Ngaio, down through the Gorgo to the Hutt Road and starting point. A handicap run-in of about a mile resulted in a win for A. G. Osborne, with J. "Wilson second and E. Shaw a close third. Members are reminded of the combined run from Lyall Bay next Saturday. BROOKLYN. Brooklyn's run was from Russell's tearooms, Karori, when there was a gathering of about thirty. The hares were J. Douglas and J. Molloy. l'iio course led straight down the side road towards the hills, and then towards tho back of the cemetery, across to Wilton's Bush and on to tho railway line, and up to Wadestown, towards the wireless and then via. various roads and paths into Northland. Tho pack then made for the starting place. Tho team, numbering 19, under the club captain (F. liarlen), with R. Harvey as pacemaker, gave the trail-layers a slight start, but never got near them, over the whole journey. The usual run-in was held ovor about 150 yards, tho winner being R. Harvey, with 'turner second, and C. Dentice third. The trail laid was a. very long one, being about nine or ten miles, and the wind played havoo with tho pap&r. members afterwards entertained a few lady friends at afternoon tea. The club also took the opportunity of farewelling Mr. It. Harvey, the late secretary, who goes into camp next week preparatory to going to the front. Tho run next Saturday will be from Lyall Bay, a combined harrier run, Brooklyn members to meet at tile Maranui Surf Club's shed. f
