UNINTERESTING MATCHES. University 4 Wellington 1 Karori 3 St. Augustine's 0 United 3 insurance 2 The three first-grade hockey games on Saturday were anything but first grade in tha real sense. United, surprising to relate, found some difficulty in defeating Insurance. University easily accounted for Wellington, While Karori defeated St. Augustine's aftor a.'uther hard game. Details of the various games are as follow:— UNITED-INSURANCE. The battle between United and Insurance was interesting, only that the latter were in the lead in the second spoil, and appeared likely to defeat United. Unitea were'handicapped, howover, in that they were without the services of Boyd and were unable to nil his plaoe. The first spell saw no score at all. When the second spell opened Lyons was successful for United. Then Insurance, per medium of Straclc, evened matters, and shortly were in the lead. United rallied, and by the time the whistle sounded Emeny and Parfitt had scored—3—2. Mr. G. Carver was referee. UNIVERSITY—WELLINGTON. The meeting between University and Wellington produced an uninteresting game, in which University—or rather their forward line—triumphed. Wellington were playing one man. short, ueorge and Karl Strack scored in the first spell, and Hostick twice in the second. Wellington's inevitable goalgetter Sheeran scored the only goal for the losers. Mr. J. Keall was referee. KARORI—ST. AUGUSTINE'S. Karori managed to account for St. Augustine's after a hard-fought battle, tho final score being 3—o. During the game a player named Murphy sustained an injury to one of his legs. Only 0110 point was secured in the first spell, that by Brooker, a Karori man. The Petone team battled against the odds pluckily, and managed to keep the final score down to 3 to nil. Stratton and M'Gregor scored for Karori in tho second spell. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee. JUNIOR. 'Varsity A (9) easily defeated United A (1). The latter were three players short. After a fairly good game, St. Augustmes defeated United B (three short) by 3 to 1. Karori A easily defeated Insuranco, tho former securing 11 goals and Insurance nil. _ Wesley just managed to beat Wellington by 3 goals to 2. LADIES' GAMES. UNIVERSITY GIRLS' COLLEGE. After an interesting and rather good game, University defeated Girls' College (who played two juii'ors) by three goals to omo. Miss Skinner, the College goalkeeper, played an excellent game. Misses Ca.rrick (2) and Dobblyn scored for the winners, and Miss Geddis for College. Mr. G. ilea 11 refereed. RAMBLER A—RAMBLER B. Rambler A had an easy victory over RamWer B, defeating them by 5 goals to nil. Misses Lang (2), Edwards, Simon, and Peckering scored for the winners. JUNIOR GAMES. Te Aro School defeated University by 2 goals to 1. Misses M. Butts and P. Olsen scored for Te Aro. AUCKLAND MATCHES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 23. University beat Auckland, 3 —l ; Arata beat Mount Eden, '2 —l.
