NEW ZEALAND WOUNDED
WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED. The following is a copy of a telegram received on Saturday by the Minister of Defence (Hon. J. Allen) from the Officer Commanding the New Zealand base in Egypt, in reply to the Minister's inquiries as to the location, condition, etc., of wounded New Zealanders:— "The wounded are located at numerous hospitals throughout Egypt, convalescent homes, private residences, and hospital ships. Some have been sent to Malta nnd to England. They are not kept at the front, but aro sent here daily. Suggest that letters and telesraius be addressed to New Zealand Base, Alexandria, when they are delivered immediately.-' The location of the wounded changes from hospital to convalescent camps and homes, and then back to the front. Therefore, a locality list is valueless. Eleven of those reported wounded art included in the 57 who died of wounds. "Owing to the nature of the country and the character of the fighting, it is not always possible to recover the dead, some of whom may havo been_ buried by the enemy; consequently identification is incomplete. I am pressing for more information, and will cable immediately it is received, but communications throughout tho theatre of operations are at present very difficult. Complete arrangements have been made for the comfort of the wounded, nnd. in the absence of any information to the contrary, it may be assumed that they aro progressing favourably."
