NIGHT SIDE OF AUCKLAND
WOMAN WAYLAID AND ' (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auokland, May 21. A woman was attacked by an unknown assailant last night in the Mount Roskill district. She was walking by herself when a man passed her, and then, suddenly wheeling round, seized her by the throat. He dragged her into some gorse, and threw her. off her feet. The woman struggled, and cried for help, and attracted the attention of two neighbours. The assailant then mad© off, pursued by the two residents, lie disappeared around a corner, whack was not lighted, and when the pursuers reached this corner they saw only a man walking towards them. _ Kiey. considered bis demeanour suspicious, and asked him where he was going, an. (j what he was doing. He was a wellbuilt man, and he answered calmly, enough that he was "out for a walk. Thereupon they asked him to walk to tho bottom of the road with them, as a young lady had been assaulted, and if sho declared him not to be her assailant they would harbour no further suspicions concerning him. While this conversation was in. procross each held an arm of their man. Ho cheerfully exprcsed his willingness to accede to their request, and they, released their hold. To their astonishment the man then whipped out a revolver, and told them to approach him again at the risk of their lives, and without more ado ho dashed oft, and eluded all pursuers.
