MAGISTRATE'S COURT
ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT CITY ACCOUNTANT CHARGED Before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., at tie Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Robert Pitcaithly, 57 years of age, and formerly aji accountant in the firm of Messrs. D. K. Blair and Co., engineers and importers, was charged that on December 16, 1914, at Wellington, having received tho sum of £25 18s. 4d. fiom J. Chambers and Son, on term's requiring him to account for the same to David Ker Blair, he failed to do so. Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for the accused, and said that he understood the police were going to ask for a. remand. In that case he would ask for bail, and he would like the amount to be as light as possible, as accused was not in a position to find any of the money himself. He had worked some time for the firm, starting at £6 per week, which was subsequently reduced. His Worship: But there must have been some reason for the reduction? Mr. Wilford said that he knew of no reason. Chief-Detective Boddam asked for a romand till next Wednesday, and stated that there were several other charges pending. The amount mentioned did not nearly cover the total amount involved. Accused was remanded till Wednesday, bail being allowed in the sum of £100, in two sureties of £50. INSOBRIETY. For drunkenness, Thoß. Turvey, an old offender, was sent to prison for one month, and Ellen Ready and John M'Donald were each fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment for similar offences. Doughty and Co. v. Wm.- Richmond, £2 18s. lid., costs 175.; P. Hayman and Co., v. Wm. Vickers and J. Brandon, £21 10s., costs £2 175.; New Zealand Express Co., Ltd., v. J. E. Skeates, £2 os. 6d., costs 10s.; Ernest Edwin Sawyer v. G. Sliultz, alias Charlie Long, £2 Is. od", costs 12s. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. In the following judgment summons cases, John Bailey was ordered to pay W. Phillips the sum of £6 10s., on or before June 4, in default seven days' imprisonment; James H. Wright was ordered to pay Te Aro House Drapery Co., Ltd., the sum of £11 14s. 6d. by Juno 4, in default ten days' imprisonment; H. L. Jenkins was ordered to pay E. J. Steel the sum of £10 lis. 6d. by Juns 4, in default ton days' imprisonment.
