NATIONAL RESERVE
SUNDAY'S PARADE. ' The question of tie National Reserve being called out on Sunday next to attend a oliurch parade at Newtown Park received the attention of the headquarters executive of that body at its meeting last evening, upon receipt of a letter from the secretary of tile Patriotic Society. After some discussion, tlio conclusion como to was, that, while the Roservo was formed of patriotic citizens voluntarily submitting to training to defend tho Empiro and their homes, and quite ready to fulfil duty's call, they yet for business, professional, and other reasons did not dosire to bo called too often before tho public. This view, moreover, had also been taken of the matter by ofßccrs commanding companies at a full meeting'where the sub: ject had been discussed. The holding of a parade of the National Reserve on Sunday next was therefore considered inadvisable.
ISLAND BAY COMPANY. Tho Island Bay-Berhampore Company for the last two weeks has been displaying increased enthusiasm, arid there nas been a particularly good muster at each parade. The work of the different platoons under their officers is becoming exceedingly interesting, and will no doubt result in a large increase in tho membership. On Saturday afternoon tho official opening of the rifle rango at Ohiro Valley is to tako place, and Colonel Porter and his staff have signified their intention of being present. The company parades at 2.15 p.m. at -he corner of Cornwall Street and the Parade, and will then march to Ohiro Valley. The company's band will be in attendance.
The Eastbourne brinish of the National Roservo paraded on Tuesday night. There was a good attendance, and the platoon was put through a solid instruction in rifle exercise by Lieut. M'Queen. Squad and section drill was also done. It has been decided that in addition to the ordinary weekly parade, daylight parados will be held on every alternate Saturday afteinoon hereafter. At the conclusion of the parade Lieut. M'Queen, who is leaving tho district, and who has boon instructor to the platoon practically since it was formed, was thanked for his services by Lieut. Perry on behalf of the > members and heartily cheered. Captain P. St. J. Keenan, who lately returned from oamoa, has very kindly offered his services to the platoon during the next tew weeks.
