A meeting of the Wellington branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. W. Watson presided. The secretary reported on tho steps alreadv taken with reference to the fund for sick and wounded horses from tho front, and notified that Mr. K W. Rowley had forwarded a cheque for £5 to start tho fund here. The secretary had been unable to make noees,sary arrangements with Mr. V. R. Meredith.

Tho secretary was instructed £o proceed with _the appeal by means of advertisements and letters in the Press.

Mrs. E. Boyes wrote, resigning her position on the committee, owing to the fact that she resided out of town.—The resignation was accepted with regret, and permission to retain the "authority card" of the society given.

Tho Dimedin branch wrote, stating that they had forwarded 17fi bandages to the Defcnce Department for the uso of horses wounded with the New Zealand Forces, and stating that the ladies of Dunedin had made them.

It was decided to reply that the lady members of tho committee had been informed of tbo matter. Mrs. Kernot agreed to see tile Defence Department as to tho stylo of bandages wanted. Inspector Henry roportod on scvoral cases of cruelty to animals, mostly to horses engaged in carting, etc. In several cases lie had ordered the horses to liavo rcßt, and to be attonded to. In one case a conviction was followed with a lino of £3.
