BOYCOTT OF ENEMY GOODS
DEPUTATION TO ME. HEREIES,
(By Telegraph— Press Association.) Chrlstchuroh : May 18. A deputation consisting of the Mayor and others waited oil the Hon. W. H. Herries to-day and brought under his notice the resolution passed at last evening's meeting that the importation of goods produced in Germany, Austria, and Turkey be absolutely prohiliited, and that ft poll-tax of £500 be imposed on all Germans admitted to the Dominion.
The Minister said he realised the Government must look to the citizens to lead in these matters. Steps must be taken to show the world that all good God-fearing people will have nothing to do with, the German nation. The resolutions, however, wore bo farreaching that _ they touched on international questions, and it would be hardly possible for the New Zealand Government to adopt tho suggestions without consulting tho Imperial Government. In the meantime he would place the matters before Cabinet. He thought something in the direction indicated l would have to be done by the Empire.
