CARNIVAL QUEEN
' EXECUTIVE ARRANGEMENTS. Tho Carnival Exeeutivo Committee met yesterday afternoon. Air. 11. G. Hill presided, and the following were also present:—Messrs. Doddrell, Carter, M'lntosh, Brownrigg, While, M'Larcn, Leach, Bennett, Whitford, S. J. A. White, Crombie, Lyon, l'uller, Lockwood, M'Kcnzie, Brown, Witt, Collcy, and Lewis (secretary). Mr. Fuller moved that the chairman of all sub-committees should forward all Press matter they desired published to Mr. M'Laron.
Mr. Lyon tendered the following suggestions for advertising tho Carnival: — Illuminated tram car, front entrance and tower of Town Hall be illuminated j notices at "Evening Post" aud Winder's corner pointing out way to Town Hall (for benefit of country visitors); advertising in tram cars; display of posters on stage of the Opera House and at Puller's during the interval; special Carnival issues of the newspapers, and advertisements in tram waiting shed 6. It was resolved that the above suggestions be considered by the officers of the society ; and those deemed satisfactory'be referred to the particular subcommittee concerned.
Mr. Doddrell submitted a set of shields bearing "Help our Boys at the Front," and similar legends prepared by himself, which ho proposed to have displayed in tho Town Hall at tonight's meeing. Professor Cardston (organiser) reported that a gentleman was about to offer a section of land at Petone for the Carnival funds.
Mr. Whitford submitted a report regarding tho Band Contest, and it was resolved that this tako place m Newtown Park on Saturday, Juue c The chairman reported tnat a deputation had waited on the Headmasters' Association, which was found to bo most enthusiastic and heartily in accord with the aims of the C.'<rmtal. The association had arranged lor Mr. Robert Parker to act s-e choirmaster in charge of a choir of IIJCO school children, and to give swo concerts, which it was anticipated would net £200. Mr. M'Laren made a suggestion—all exhibition of children's work, sketching, etc., be held in tho Town Hall in connection with the Carnival. It was decided t-o forward this suggestion on to the Headmasters' Association. It was resolved that Professor Cardston have entire supervision of the coronation ceremony, and that he be assisted by Mrs. J. A. Hannah (as Mistress of Robes) and Mr. J. M. Clark (as Lord High Chancellor). Professor Cardston gave a very interesting description of the coronation ceremony. It was resolved that the coronation ceremony take place on Monday evening, June 28, Tuesday afternoon and evening, the Royal Ball on Wednesday evening, Juno 30, and the coronation be repeated in Newtown on the following Saturday afternoon, July 3, and again in tho Town Ilall the (same evening. It was resolved that at tho matinee at the Park a f certain number of seats be reserved for the aged needy and iifmates of tho Old Men's Homes and Veterans, and that the Automobile Association be approached to convey the old people to and from the Park. It was resolved that invitations to tho Coronation. Ceremony be sent to Mayors, chairmen of county councils, harbour boards, road boards, and other local bodies throughout the Wellington province,
It was resolved that evening entertainments be held at the Park on June 3 and 4 and a great patriotic concert be held in the Town Hall on June 5. From Jime 7 to 12, inclusive, the Town Hall is to be available for Queen Candidates' Committees for carrying out any entertainments they desire to help the candidate of their queens. From June 14 to 26 the Entertainment Committee will run entertainments for the benefit of the Carnival funds.
It was resolved that the route of the procession on June 3 from Government Buildings, Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Manners Street, Cuba Street, to Veitch and Allan's corner be decorated, and that further, the society to extend an invitation by way of ail advertisement or circular letter, to every shopkeeper along the route to decorate his promises. Major A. A. Corrigan was elected to the position of Chief Marshal. Major Corrigan was also elected a member of the executive.
Permission was granted to tho Tramway Candidate's Committee to change their colours to royal blue and gold. It was resolved that with a view to stimulating interest in the suburbs to write to tho proprietors of halls in the suburbs endeavouring to arrange conccrts at which members of the executive could address the audience.
The singing of tho National' Anthem closed a most enthusiastic meeting.
MEETING AT KHANDALLAH. In connection with the Queen Carnival Professor Cards ton and Mr. D. M'Laren journeyed out to Khandallah last night and addressed a meeting in the Khandallah Town Hall. Mr. C. C. Crump, Mayor of Onslow, presided. After addresses had been given explanatory of the Carnival, and urging people to take the matter up, it was decided by the meeting to provide a refreshment and variety stall for the Carnival. Tho Mayoress of Onslow (Mrs. Crump) was unanimously elected to take charge of tho stall. It was also decided to ask Ngaio and Kaiwarra people to join in and make a combined committeo of the three townships. Meetings in this connection will he held at Ngaio and Kaiwarra on Friday.
