The ceremonv of crowning tho_ Queen of the Carnival in connection with the recent Ashburton County Fete in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund was repeated last- ovening in the Arcade, which had boen specially lighted, seated, and enclosed for the occasion, and contained a very large audience. Opportunity was taken at the same time to present the parents or next-of-kin of Ashburton County membors of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces with n New Zoaland Ensign and flagpole apiccc. Tho caromon? was 'performed by tne Hon. James Allen (Minister of Defence), and over '>no hundred relatives received flnss at his hands. Tho proceedings were often very touching, especially when mothers and fathers having their sons at war came forward, and few remained Unmoved when a widow_ whoso four sons aro all in tho firing lino ascended the platform.
