MAKARA AFFAIRS

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNTY COUNCIL.-

The monthly meeting of tho Makara County Council was beld yesterday. There were present: Councillors Taylor (in the chair), Haggerty, Monaghan, Pyle, Bryant, and Jlonk.

The proposal of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to establish its own dairy farm was discussed. In this connection Councillor Bryant moved that the council enter an emphatic protest against/the proposal of the board. > The motion was carried. From the same board came intimation in respect to the council's general conr tribution to the board. This showed an increase of £80 over last year. The communication was "received;" A resolution was passed that application be made to the Government for a £100 grant towards' the cost of Richard, John, Lamble.v, and Whanaka Streets, Tetalii township. It was decided that a deputation from members of the council wait on the Minister urging tho immediate revaluation of the county. In this respect the Town Clerk was instructed to communicate with .the member for the district. It was also decided to levy a fee of 10s. upon all owners of boats or bathing sheds on the county reserves at Titahi Bay, and that 110 further buildings be permitted to be erected without the consent of the council.

It was resolved that the Mayors of Hutt and Petone be supported in their representations to the authorities urging that unsold land held by tho Government for the workers' homes be not exempt from rates. Instruction was given to the Town Clerk to request the Johnsonville Town Board to trie steps to abate tho nuisance arising from a septic tank. The annual balance-sheet for the year ending March 31 showed in the general account receipts amounting to £6094 Bs. 10d., and expenditure £3,506 9s. 2d., leaving a balance of 1 £2587 19s. Sd.
