Commissioner Hodder, who has been conducting a successful Salvation Army campaign in the Auckland district, will install Major Toomer as commander of the Wellington division at Palmerston North on Tuesday. The Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. J. P. Kelly) and Councillor T. W. Pilcher have been appointed the Eastbourne Borough Council's Sinking Fund Commissioners. 1 Messrs. N. Galbraith . and R. M. Wylie, of Wellington, and last evening at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union much praiso was bestowed on him for his work as treasurer of the body. A resolution in appreciation of his offorts for the union was passed amidst applause. ' Mr. R. A. Keenan, well known in Bocial circles in Wellington, has been promoted to be district agent for the Agricultural Department in Napier. He will probably leave - Wellington for his new sphere of duty on Monday next. Mr. Joseph Myers, of Wellington, leaves for America by the Niagara, Bailing from Auckland on May 18. Mr. E. W. Gibbs, of tho staff of Messrs. E. W. Mills and Co., will leave on a trip to England by the Tiuakina ' on May 25. Mr. Herbert Woods has been appointed secretary of the Wellington Orphans' Club, vice Mr. R. A. Keenan, who is leaving for Napier. Sir. Koenan is to be fnrewelled by the club to-morrow evening.

Mr. G. H. Mason, who was elected president of the New Zealand Rugby Union last ovening, has been prominently connectcd with th* game of Rugby for about a quarter of a century. Mr. W. Christian Ellard, science master at tho Queensland Agricultural College, has been appointed instructor in agriculture to the Auckland Education Board, at a salary of £350 . a year. The appointment of Canon George Mac Murray, vicar of St. Mary's Church,' Parnellj as Archdeacon of Auckland, in succession to Archdeacon Calder, who recently resigned that position, was announced by Dr. Averili, Bishop of Auckland, this week (says the "Herald"). [ Archdeacon Mac Murray, who has been vicar of St.' Mary's Cathedral for the past twenty-three years,is a well-known figure in local ecclesiastical circles. Ho is a native of County Donegal, Ireland, where he was born in 1855. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and took his M.A. degree. He was ordained as deacon in 1878 for the curacy of Aughrim-cum-Killukin, and was admitted to the priesthood in the following year, and transferred to tho curacy of Cavan in 1880. In 1883 ho was appointed rector of Killinagh, and rural dean. He left Ireland in 1885, and proceeding to Australia began colonial work at Ararat, in the diocese of Ballarat. tn 1837 ho was appointed vicar of St. Paul's, Ballarat, and was elected canon of. the Cathedral. He retained this position until 1892, when he came to Auckland as vicar of St. Mary's Cathedral, a position which 110 still retains, fie was installed as canon ot St. Mary's Cathedral in 1901.

. Mr. J. D. Mac Donald, of Sydney, is ■visiting Auckland and Taupo - lor the fishing .season. Mr. J. A. Carr, son of Mrs. R. A. Can', of Epsom, will leave by tho Niagara on Tuesday to offer his services to tho War Office. He was a member of the Auckland division of the. Expeditionary Force which occupied Samoa. Mr. H. D. Stronach has resigned the position he has held for many years as manager for Otago and Southland of the London and Lancashire Fire Insurance Company, Ltd., in order to join the service of the Commercial Union Assurance Company, Ltd., _ and will, from June 1, fill the position of manager at Dunedin for that company, succeeding Mr. J.
