NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW

Lovers of the old English sport of hunting, particularly those who are participants, are reminded that the abovenamed event provides two most interesting items for their pleasure and encouragement. These are maiden and open hunters' competitions. Prizemoney to the value of £35 is offered for the two events, together with the Collinson and Cunninghanio Cup, valued at 30 guineas, in the open hunters, as an additional incentive. To keep matters lively between the big jumps', the Manawatu Hunt Olub has arranged to give a display with the pack under the direo. tion of the master. A very good point, and one which adds to the interest is a condition that competitors in the open hunters shall wear full hunting costume. These two items are timed for Thursday, the third day of the show. A variation: is provided for the last day in .the shape of pony leaping, bending competitions, potato race on Eorse&ack, aindiug up with a quite new event, viz., saddle walk and trot competition for ponies. This is entirely novel iii Palmerston North. The prize-money al.Jotrted is £9. The conditions attached ,ara that the .pony must. not. be more than 14.2 hasds. No ambling allowed. (■Hide round the ring once at a walk, and i'trot round twice. If any pony breaks r.tho rider must stop the animal - , and jturn completely round beforo re-start-ling. Between this items and the pota■jto race tho fun should be fast and /-furious. Tho rising generation of i sports are certainly well entered for. "All particulars may bo had from the secretary, and entries close on June 0.
