N,Z. FARMERS' UNION

.GREYTOWN CENTRE. The annual meeting of tho Grejtown Branch of the Now' Zealand Farmers' Union lias held at Grey town yesterday. The annual report, which was adopted, was as follows: — Dunns: the.year the following dairy factories havo placed their insurance with the Farmers' Union Mutual Kire Insurance Association: —Greytown, Otaraia, Dalelield, Taratahi, I'arfcvale, Belvedere, Carringtou, and Longbush. As a consequence of tho cheapor rata charged than what they had been paying previously, a sum of about £40 will bo saved annually to tho suppliers of these factories.

Tho union busied itself to see that every available acre was cultivated so that the maximum amount of foodstuffs was availablo for export. Unfortunately the drought nullitied to some extent the grand 1 response the farmers made to the appeal to "Keep the plough going,", but it is safe to say that a far greater: crop of cereals was harvested in ihe Wairarapa than for many years previously. It is imperative to impress an members tho necessity for greater .eorts iu intense cultivation for the coming season and thereby help our country in tho grim struggle we are involved in. Since the start of the war tho secretary and tho whole Farmers' Union organisation has been placed at the disposal of the Wairarapa War Fund Committee and also tho Poor of Great Britain and Allies'. Relief Fund. Committeo. Members will agree that the. work for these fuiiids was' the most useful work our organisation, in conjunction .with towns, could have undertaken, and tho result has not been by any other district in New Zealand. The uniou has' decided to see that all members who havo gone to tho front are kopt as financial on tho books.

The rules governing-tho shoot for the Farmers' Union Shield have been modernised,- and the competition-will in fuire bo under the rules of-the Dominion Biflo Association of New Zealand. It is hoped to.get several.teams from the JWairarapa to compete this yeai. Remits from other districts were discussed. and Messrs."H'.'Morrison and BlJurch were appointed delegates to represent the Centre at the annual meeting of the main body. It was suggested that the Government should have a. milk-testing centre in the district, to. that testing could be dono independent of the factory. The old committee was re-clect-ed.. The balance-sheet for the year ended March 31 showd receipts £631 lis. 7d., and expenditure £620 3s. iid., and balojicu a:t credit £11 7s. lid.
