A proposal to go on strike was discussed by the General Labourers* TJnion last evening when it became known that , one member, F. Lurch, had been dismissed from work at the City Counoils electrical plant because he was born in Germany. -Lurch has been'a resident and a naturalised British subject for many years. The matter was brought before tba Mayor, who said that in conversation witii the electric-ill engineer he had reported to the. latter that Lurch should be put olf and a British-born worker, whose case was urgent, taken on. Tho engineer subsequently dismissed Lurch. To avoid industrial trouble, the Mayor has now issued definite instructions that Lurch l)c taken on again until opportunity be afforded to inquire into thq
