TERRORISTS OF THE AIR
THE ZEPPELIN RAID IN SOUTHEND (Rec. May 12, 5.40' p.m.) London May 11.. During the German airship raid on Southend an invalided soldier at Linton picked up a bomb and iminersed it in a bucket. Amongst the miraculous escapes was that of two babies, wl.o"were in a room where a fatality occurred. The bomb penetrated within inches of the cot. A dog aroused the family, who rushed out of the house, nearly suffocated. The father, carrying the children, - fought out his way through blinding smoke. The town was awakened by the 1 droning of the engines and a deafening explosion. People rushed out' to see flaming bombs lighting up the skies, great fires, and houses blazing and falling. Windows were shattered for miles by the brass-disced fizzing bombs with trailing flames.—("Times" and Sydney i "Sun" Services.) TAUBE'S RAID INTO FRANCE. Paris, May 11. A Taube dropped several bombs at St. Denis, which did much ■ damage. Many persons Were injured'. Aeroplanes drovo it off.
