HUTT COUNTY AFFAIRS
MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. ■ The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was neld yesterday. There ware present: .Councillors W. J. Howell (in toe chair), J. Wake ham, M. W. Welch, W. Galloway, T. Edwards, and J. Whiteman. N A. report was received from Mr. G. Laing-Meason on the proposed Wainui-o-mata Bridge, and it was decided to refer it to a sub-committeo. It was decided to ask the Government to contribute £100 towards the maintenance of the roads near Trentham on account' of the extra traffic on them due®to the troops. The Eailway Department was graiitied temporary use of Granville Road, near Trentham. * It was decided to carry out proposed alterations on the Paekakariki Hill, as suggested by tho Wellington Automobile Club. A communication from tho Hospital Board regarding the proposed dairy farm ovoked some discussion, and even- | tuallv the council decided to oppose tho proposal. _ Intimation was received from the Weilington Hospital Board that the appointment of this- year's levy to the Hutt County Council amounted to £1487 I lis. 4d., being an increase of £239 ss. o.ver last year's levy.—The letter, was received. In his usual report to tho council, the Inspector of Works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) said that' since the council's last meeting an old bridge in Whiteman's Valley had been taken out and replaced with 24-inch concrete pipes. On the Akatarawa Road a 24ft. 2in. pipe culvert had been put in near Mr. .Rapley's. Tho southern end of Akatarawa Road was now being metalled where it was most likely to need it. In Mungaroa Valley a portion of the_ road had also been metalled. Metalling was also being pushed on with orf tho Main Bond in Epuni Riding and the Lowry Bay Road. ' Other road improvements were being effected in the Moonshine Valley, the Pahautanui-Paremata Road, the Paekakariki Hill R?ad, and in -Mungakotukutuku Valley. Certain improvements were also recommended to the. Silverstream Bridge in Epuni Riding. The eight chains of road formation and metalling in Section 89, Trentham, had been completed. Tha report was adopted. Aooounts amounting to £859 19s. Bd. were passed for payment.
