DEBATING SOCIETY
KHANDALLAH ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Kbandallah Literary and Debating Society was held at Kbandallah last night. The president, Mr. J. H. Richardson, presided, and there was a fairly largo attendance of members. The ajiimal report and balance-sheet' ■were adopted. The report stated that the session last year was ent short owing to the war, but for tho ten meetings that were held there was an average attendance of 31, as against 29 for the previous year. The number of members enrolled was 60, as against 39 last year. The outstanding feature of the season was the debate with tho Owl Club, of Johnsonville, which contest Khandallah won. During tli'e season a patriotic concert was held, in aid of tho Belgian Fund, and the sum of £11 10s. was handed over to the fund. The election of officers lesulted as under :—Presidentj Mr. J. H. Richardson (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. H. E. Anderson, A. Budd, E. Cowles, C. C. Crump, J. G. Harkness, J. L. James, and J. G. Smith; secretary, Mr. W. Appleton; assistant secretary, Mr. E. Hobbs; treasurer, Mr. A. W. Aplin; editors of journal, Messrs. A. E. Budd and J. M. Dale; committee, Mesdanies Daniel, Luke, Meadowcroft, and Page, Misses Richardson and Sunderland, Messrs. Josephs, Luke, Meadowcroft, Burt, Evans, and J. Casey. Arrangements have been made for a strenuous session, and the now syllabus has been drafted.
