4 FAIRLY GOOD FOOTBALL Taken on the whole Saturday's 'soccer" games were productive of fairly good football. The weather conditions were ideal, and the grounds were in excellent order. A feature of the afternoon's sport was Y.M.C.A.'s-two senior teams registering a croditable win against worthy opponents. Following are the results:— Y.M.C.A. A ... 3 Wanderers 2 Y.M.C.A. B ... 2 Diamonds 0 Rovers 5 Swifts 3 Hospital 2 Thistle 0 ROVERS—SWIFTS. A willing contest between two old opponents was witnessed at Anderson Park 011 Saturday afternoon, and Rovers came out winners over Swifts to the tune of 0 goals to 3. At one time it looked as if Swifts were going to be beaten by 0 to 1, but in the last few minutes the wearers of the Red shirts rallied and scored two goals in quick succession. After several vain attempts H. Hart scored for Rovers. A few minutes later the same player secured another goal. Tho third goal came from good play between Temple and Elford. As soon as the team got going in the second half Swifts rushed through and attacked strongly, with tho result that Toohill scored a good goal. Rovers replied with some determined rushes, but the defence was sound. Martin scored from a free-kick, however, and subsequently Elford shot Rovers' fifth goal. These reverses roused the Swifts, and tho game became fast and furious. Away the Reds went at top speed, and Toohill was responsible for a score. Time was nearly up when Swifts made their final effort, and Maclin just succeeded in scoring on time. Mr. Astill was referee. Y.M.C.A. A—WANDERERS. The meeting between Wanderers and Y.M.C.A. A on Saturday had been looked forward to with interest during the week, and hopes of a good game were realised. Give-and-take play was the order of things right through the match. It was anybody's game up till a few minutes to time. Towards the end of the first spell E. Phillips scored the first goal after some exciting play in front of Wanderers' goal. The second half was even more interesting than the first, and it looked as if the match would end in a draw. Hindmarsh had scored another goal for Y.M.C.A. and Smith had equalised for Wanderers, when Y.M.C.A. set up a furious attack on their opponents' goal, and Pattisoh scored the winning goal. Mr. H. Yeoman was referee. HOSPITAL—THISTLE. Those old rivals, Hospital and Thistle, met at Porirua on Saturday afternoon. The game was not productive of very good football, but Hospital managed to put on a goal through the agency of Ferguson in the first half, and the same player came to light towards the end of the second half. At the outset Thistle attacked strongly, but too much heavy kicking was indulged in, and many opportunities- -were lost. Hospital's first goal was the result of a pretty piece of play between Hughes, Daily, and Ferguson. By the 'time the second spell was reached, both teamu had settled down. Hospital ' forwards were much superior to Thistle's, who appeared to lack combination. The second goal was scored after a beautiful typical Hospital forward rush. Mr. F. O'Conncll was the referee. Y.M.C.A. B—DIAMONDS. Y.M.C.A. B, being in better condition than their opponents (Diamonds), won their match by 2 goals to nil. During the opening stages of the game Diamonds played up well, but towards tho end Y.M.C.A. did practically what they liked. Daubney scored tlie first goal for, Y.M.C.A., and there was no further score in the first half. Sturratt', outside-left, received a nice pass from Wilson, and scored the only goal in the second spell. Mr. R. Lithgow was referee. JUNIOR DIVISION. The results of matches in tho lower divisions were as "under: — ' SECOND. St. David's, 0; Thistle, 0. THIRD. Hutt, 5; St. David's, 0. Y.M.C.A. defeated Marist by 4 goals to 2.
